Mona Gutierrez Assistant Coach
Hi I am Coach Mona. I’m extremely fortunate to help this group of Amazing young athletes achieve their goals. My gift as a natural giver and teacher was instilled to me from my mother.
What is my history with WeROCK?
I learned of WeROCK in 2016 while pacing at the OC marathon. It felt like the entire race was invaded by a sea of Orange kids. Yes, they were the WeROCK family. I have paced with the local running club many marathons over the past 15 years. My first year as an Assistant Coach was 2018. Ecstatic to be back for the 2019 season.
It’s always fun to hear a coach’s race history!
I had a great idea to run my 1st marathon, so I need to start running, right (lol). I followed Jeff Galloway ‘s marathon plan to get me to my first OC (Irvine) marathon in 1991. On accident I found John Loeschhorne a running coach. He’s actually a Ultra Coach and I had no idea what that meant. An Ultra is many distances over a Marathon (50k, 50 miles, 100k, 100 miles…) get the idea? I have completed over 60 marathons, over 60 Ultras which include 7-100 mile finishes. And my longest race of 150 miles in 2018. I qualified to run The 2018 Boston Marathon. This was one of the coldest years in history. So I’ve qualified again for the 2020 Boston Marathon.
What’s my favorite WeROCK race during the season?
The most fun race was the WeROCK 20 Mile race. With Finisher medals, T-shirts and a Food Truck at the finish line.
